How do I extract video directly from the DVR/NVR from the HDMI monitor?
Text guide:
The beginning of this guide will need to be done to the physical NVR, while the later half will show you the steps you need to follow on the NVR application.
Step 1:
To begin, you will need an external storage device that can connect through USB to store the videos. What kind of device and how much external storage you need will depend on how much footage you need to take from the NVR. A test NVR will be used for the purposes of this guide, but these steps should work on any of our NVRs.
Once you have your external storage device plug it into the USB slot pictured below
Once you have plugged in your external storage, you can continue the rest on your NVR screen.
step 2:
On the main screen, press right click and click on the “Main Menu” option
If you have not input your Passcode recently, the NVR will prompt you to enter it.
step 3:
Now on the main menu, click on the “BACKUP” option
step 4:
This next page can be somewhat overwhelming but we will go through all the important aspects in order.
Device Name: This box will show the name of whatever external storage device you have plugged into the NVR.
Storage Path: This will show where on the external storage device the videos will be saved to.
Record Channel: By default this will be set to your first camera, by clicking the drop down box you can select any one of your cameras to collect footage from.
Type: This will filter what sort of video clips will show up when you search on the camera. Leaving it on “all” will show you clips that fall under every detection type
Period: This is the timeframe in which the clips will be selected.
File Format: The two options here are “MP4” and “DAV”. Most computers and devices can read MP4 Formats so it is recommended to keep it on that.
step 5:
Next, hitting the search function will cause the NVR to search and bring up all of the video clips that meet your search criteria. One important thing to note about this, the clips shown will be in various sizes, so it may be best to limit the period of your search to be as specific as possible.
step 6:
Once the NVR has finished searching, the clips will show up as seen below. Under the “Type” it will show you an abbreviation of what type of motion detection was found in that clip. This is important if you selected the “All” option for “Type” earlier. Start and End Time show you what part of the day the video clip was taken from. Size(KB) is the file size of the individual video clip, and hitting the play icon will show you a playback of the clip.
If you want to hand pick which clips are taken from the ones shown to you, you can click the check box on the left hand side under the “Channel” column, the export will only export clips that are left checked.
Note: If you wish to only select a few video clips, hitting the checkbox to the left of the word “Channel” at the top of the search box, will automatically uncheck all of the shown video clips, and you can then check any you want individually.
step 7:
Once you have selected all the clips you wish to export, click on the “Backup” button located in the bottom right of the screen, and they will be automatically exported to your external storage device.
